QUESTIONS

Welcome to our FAQ section, here you’ll find quick answers to the most common questions about our programmes, activities, and how we support young people through sport and beyond.

What does Support Through Sport do?

We provide sport-based interventions, mentoring, and progression programmes for young people aged 8-18 in underserved communities. Our work steers them away from negative influences, such as youth offending, violence, gang culture, and knife crime by empowering them through sport and personal development.

Who benefits from your programmes?

We serve disadvantaged youth aged 8-18 in communities across the Midlands and Nottinghamshire, focusing on those with additional risk factors, notably in areas identified by the Nottinghamshire Violence Reduction Unit and local partners.

Is Support Through Sport a registered charity?

Yes, Support Through Sport CIO is registered in England & Wales (Charity No. 1212065), supporting full transparency and accountability.

What types of sessions do you run?

We run weekly sports sessions, mentoring programmes, and tailored one-to-one support. Sessions are designed to be fun, inclusive, and youth-led, while also building confidence, resilience, and life skills.

Are sessions safe for my child?

Yes. All staff and volunteers are DBS-checked and trained in safeguarding, first aid, and mental health awareness. We prioritise safety, inclusivity, and wellbeing at every session.

Do young people need to be “sporty” to take part?

Not at all. Our sessions are for all abilities. Sport is simply the vehicle, we focus on teamwork, confidence, and positive choices, not just performance.

How can a young person join your sessions?

Parents, schools, or community organisations can refer young people directly through our website, or young people can sign up by attending one of our sessions.

Do sessions cost anything?

All of our programmes are free to access thanks to funding and donations.

What impact do your sessions have?

Our programmes reduce anti-social behaviour, improve school attendance, boost confidence, and help young people move into education, training, or work. To date, we’ve supported over 5,000 young people across hundreds of sessions.

How do you measure success?

We track participation, behavioural changes, and progression outcomes, while gathering feedback from young people, parents, and schools. This helps us prove impact and refine our approach.

Why should people donate to your charity?

Every donation helps build safer communities and transform lives. With your support, we can deliver more mentoring, enhance youth opportunities, and invest in long-term positive outcomes for young people who need it most.

How are donations used in relation to sessions?

Every donation goes directly into programme delivery, covering coaching, mentoring, equipment, safe venues, and resources. Your support ensures more young people access our sessions at no cost.

How do you show the impact of donations?

We provide updates, case studies, and reports showing the real difference your support makes – whether it’s funding a new mentoring programme, covering equipment costs, or expanding sessions to new communities.

How can I get involved besides donating?

You can get involved by referring young people, registering as a volunteer, or exploring our community and partnership opportunities. Visit our “Get Involved” section to learn more.

Can businesses or organisations partner with you?

Yes. We collaborate with schools, councils, community groups, and companies who want to invest in young people and safer communities. Partnerships can involve funding, resources, or volunteering.
